Welcome to Friday Five!
In this series, I sit down to share 5 things that are on my mind, a weekly recap, plans for the weekend, etc. In the future, these will be shorter, I promise, but we’ve got a lot to catch up on this time around!
01 // Happy New Year, friends!
A small part of me still cannot believe that it’s 2019…I dated an important document a few days ago at work “January 8, 2018.” ??♀️
What did you get up to for New Years!? I went out with a couple of friends and happily danced my way into 2019, but was hit with a weird “holy shit, it’s 20 damn NINETEEN, what am I doing with my life!?” funk when I woke up the next morning…fun.
Though I typically experience a mild version of this on New Year’s Eve (…possibly my least favourite holiday), I do think this is the worst it has ever been; it took me a good few days to snap back to my usual happy and hopeful mood. Everyone was recapping all of the wonderful things that happened over the year and I simply couldn’t muster the energy to even reflect, let alone enjoy the memories.
Good news: I’m back (
02 // Chicago for Christmas
Rewinding a little bit on the calendar, prior to my epic new year deflation, I had a truly marvellous Christmas!! My family and I remembered in November that some of our best Christmases have been spent away from home, just for a little change of scenery and something unique to do over the holiday season. As we were narrowing down the list of places to go, my dad was talking about doing something special to mark the memory and…literally minutes later…we had our tickets booked for Hamilton: An American Musical in Chicago!!!!
…I’m still not completely sure how it happened! ? Needless to say, the trip was purely amazing. I have fallen in love with Chicago and its history, the weather was perfect, not too cold but cold and wintery enough to feel like Christmas and…we won’t even get into Hamilton…okay, really!? Fine, you twisted my arm! 😉 Here are some thoughts on HamJam:
*clears throat*
There’s definitely something to be said about seeing something with your own eyes. I’ve been a fan of the musical, its story, the cast, the creators and everything that it and they represent since 2015, and while that may not seem long enough to have grown to a certain level of fandom, ok, if I’m being honest, it’s more like an obsession, to some, it was certainly ample time for me. Seeing Hamilton last month was quite literally a dream come true that I’m still ensuring actually happened, in, *real life*, to this day. ✨
What did you do over the holidays!?
03 // Life Changing Magic
I am not organized. There, I said it. Sure, I
I have a planner, in which I track important dates and events and this same planner always looks very pretty…but in a broader sense, the term “organized” isn’t about looking good, is it?
This is where the magic comes in. I’ve been cleaning, decluttering, and straight up removing garbage from my mind, my surroundings and my life. I’m getting more in touch with my spiritual side, taking time to reflect, meditate, practice yoga, etc. I received a diffuser and some essential oils for Christmas (thanks Jer!! <3) and they’ve been essential (ha) for disconnecting from everyday stress and just breathing deeply and being mindful for a few minutes a day.
Yes, it’s only the 11th today, but so far, so good. If you have an opportunity to declutter this time of the year, it’s a good way to set you up on the right course and to establish a positive, healthy state of mind as we move ahead in 2019.
04 // Parks and Rec Returns
Ahh, I got your attention with that one, didn’t I!? 😉 Alas, the wonderful show that was Parks and Recreation starring Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Rashida Jones, the incomparable Retta (I love her!) and
Another entertainment note for you, while I’m at it, is Mary Poppins freakin’ Returns. Fan of Mary Poppins? You’ll love it. Fan of musicals? You’ll (seriously) love it. Fan of Emily Blunt or Lin Manuel-Miranda (the genius himself)? You’ll love it. Are you a human being with a beating heart and lungs to breathe? You’ll love it. That’s all. Trip a little light fantastic for me, won’t ya!? ?
05 // YOU!
I’ve made it to the end of this very long, rambly blog post and now I turn to you. What have you been up to lately? How are things going for you, your family, your friends, your life? One of my goals for the year is to connect on a deeper level with the people in my life, and that includes you, my friend.
Though I may not be the most reliable or consistent with posting (working on it), I consider y’all my friends. Friendship isn’t a one-way street, and I’m genuinely interested to know what is going on in your world. If you ever need a friend just to say hello to, to obsess over beauty or entertainment with, or to share your thoughts with when you’re going through a funk, I’m here. Be it a comment below, an email, and Instagram message, whatever…I’ll be here. Just thought you should know.?
And on that note, that’s all for today! Please let me know if there are any topics in particular that you would like me to touch on in the series!
Until next Friday,
